Essential and indispensable items to take when travelling

You’re finally ready to leave and there’s only one thing left to do: pack your suitcase! To make sure you don’t forget anything read this article for some useful tips on what to pack.

We’ve summarised the indispensable things to pack so that you won’t get into trouble during your travels.

Obviously the must-haves may vary or other essentials may be added depending on the type of trip you’re taking and the destination. However some are common to every trip.

What are the must-haves when travelling?

  1. Documents and tickets: these are definitely the most important because without them you risk not leaving at all. Therefore, it’s best to check – even a few times – that you have everything, from the airport parking ticket (if you’re going by plane) to your passport or identity card, to the boarding passes if you checked in online. Other documents to check include your driving licence, health card, visa (if the country you’re going to requires one) and medical insurance (if required where you’re going, but always a good idea in any case). Furthermore, you should not forget certificates of vaccinations where required.
  1. Electronic accessories: you’ll definitely need the charger for your mobile phone and a power bank, which is always useful. All this can be stored in a cable case. Also important is a universal adapter if you’re travelling to a foreign country, especially in the UK, Australia and USA. We also recommend that you bring digital scales to weigh your bags in order to avoid nasty surprises at the airport due to overweight luggage. If you like to take good photos, not just with your phone, a camera/GoPro and accessories are crucial. And don’t forget the headphones for your music.
  1. Travel cubes: these are very useful for keeping your suitcase in perfect order, dividing the various personal items and clothing you want to take on your trip into compartments. They’re also useful for keeping dirty and clean clothes separate and for protecting them from dust. In addition to travel cubes – again to better organise the space inside your suitcase – we recommend compressible bags, to vacuum-pack your garments and save a lot of space. They also protect your clothes against moisture, dirt, dust and unpleasant odours.
  1. Beauty case: the perfect suitcase needs to include a kit for your daily beauty routine. This should consist of a toothbrush, toothpaste, various creams, make-up, nail polish, lotions, and anything else you consider indispensable for your personal care. Remember: liquids may not exceed 100 ml in the cabin bag you take on board. There are special containers for transporting such liquids, which we recommend you use. Don’t forget razors, brushes, hair dryers and straighteners.
  1. Mini umbrella: it’s always useful to have one of these in your suitcase. It doesn’t take up much space and can offer great shelter in times of need.
  1. Neck pillow: very useful for those travelling by train or plane, it supports the neck, thus maintaining correct posture while travelling and resting. Use it together with a mask and earplugs to sleep more comfortably, especially during a long flight.
  1. Windbreaker: your suitcase should include a windbreaker or jacket that can protect you from rain or other weather events. If your destination is somewhere cold, you’ll also need to pack the appropriate clothes.
  2. Medicines: painkillers and aspirin, a thermometer, milk enzymes, disinfectant…. If you need more specific medicines you can ask your doctor to advise you on what to bring according to the destination you’re going to.
  1. A pair of slippers, always useful, even when you get out of the shower.
  1. Sunglasses and a hat if you plan on going to the beach. In this case you might also want to add fins, mask and a snorkel, not to mention sunscreen, a sarong and mosquito spray.
  1. Hiking shoes if you’re going to the mountains.
  1. Tissues and wet wipes.
  1. A padlock if the bag isn’t fitted with a TSA lock.

Of course here we’ve only pointed out the things that we consider strictly necessary to take with you. Each trip and destination deserve their own consideration, so you can prepare in the best possible way to fully enjoy each experience, making it unforgettable.
